Accreditation
Fri, 01/04/2008 - 06:05
Each of the accrediting organisations has recommendations for training durations dependent on any previous experience of operators. Whilst there are minor differences, these are broadly similar, eg novices 5 days. Additionally, each accrediting organisation has recommendations on instructor: trainee ratios. These two factors have a significant influence on how much operating practice each course member is able to achieve during training. Any training that appears to stray significantly from the broad recommendations may not come up to the standards required.
What does this mean to the employer?
The employer under section 2c has a responsibility to provide The provision of such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure, so far is as reasonably practicable, the health and safety at work of his employees. By greatly reducing training requirements this could mean that the employer could be held responsible for failing to provide adequate training. The employer also has a responsibility to ensure the Health & Safety of his employee's whilst at work
How can we ensure the training will be to the standard required?
Always use a Accredited training organisation
What is Accreditation?
Currently accreditation by recognised bodies is voluntary. It is intended to promote professional and consistent training standards, and to help employers select good quality training. Monitored visits are currently done every year to ensure standards continue to be met. The use by an employer of an accredited training provider , provides some assuarance that the training provided will be at least to the standard of the ACOP and guidance.
KGTraining is accredited by I.T.S.S.A.R listed in their training directory www. itssar.org.uk
I.T.S.S.A.R (independent training standards, scheme and register) is one of six bodies recognised by the HSC as competent to accredit and monitor organisations to train instructors and/or to train, test and certificate operators: by the Health & Safety Commission in the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance (acop) for fork truck operator training
